Coffee? What coffee?

A couple days ago I went through my usual morning ritual. My wife had made my coffee before I jumped in the shower and I remember thinking about that coffee when I was in the shower.

After getting changed and coming out of the bedroom, I swear I remember glancing at the kitchen countertop and seeing my coffee standing there in the usual clear glass mug with brown plastic handle (it's one of those Bodum mugs you get with some of their French presses). I did one or two other things (took maybe 1-2 mins) then walked over to get my coffee. Surprise! No coffee. Blink. I asked my wife what happened to the coffee. She looked at me and told me straight that I'd already had it, that she remembers glancing over and seeing me drink (most of) the coffee. Since I'd just brushed my teeth and had a shower, I asked her to smell my devoid-of-coffee breath. For anyone who knows, coffee breath is unmistakable. She confirmed that I didn't have coffee breath. The mystery continued.

"What about before your shower?" Nope, I remember having my greens drink and vitamins and that was all. But the mug was empty. And didn't have any residual coffee in it, so it had to have been rinsed. Actually, I didn't check to see whether any water would drip out of it, so conceivably it could have been bone dry. Yes, possibly she and I both imagined her making the coffee. Or I really did drink it and have no recollection. Or she imagined me drinking it and dumped it down the sink. And before you think I'm about to launch into a blamestorming session against my wife, think again. I can only chalk this up one of those weird things that happens sometimes.

Then there was this morning. I remember being in the shower again, hoping she was making me coffee. Then I finished up in the bathroom, got dressed, got my stuff ready for work, did some car insurance stuff (at one point I'd thought, "Mmmm, I could enjoy a coffee while I do all of this"), finished up, swapped kisses and hugs and headed off to work. Then mid-morning she IM'd me and mentioned that I hadn't had any of the coffee she'd made. Blink.

Yes folks, I'm definitely losing my mind. Heh.
